Japan’s Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation has hired the former Greater China CEO of Credit Suisse.

SMBC has appointed Carsten Stoehr as managing director and deputy head of Asia Pacific, according to a statement, effective February 19.

Based in Singapore, he will report to Yuichi Nishimura and Rajeev Kannan, co-heads of APAC at the Japanese lender.  

In the role, he will oversee the bank’s structured lending and private wealth businesses across the region, working closely with coverage teams to drive further growth and maximize client opportunities.

Credit Suisse Vet

Stoehr has over 30 years of experience, including more than 25 years with Credit Suisse, most recently as managing director, Greater China CEO as well as board chairman of Credit Suisse (HK) and Credit Suisse Securities (HK).

Previously, he also worked at Standard Chartered as its global head of capital markets and financial market sales.
